From Notice Board to Front Page: The Open Journal Origin Story
How Open Journal grew from a short list pinned to a notice board into a proper games desk.
Open Journal started the way most small, good publications do — as a short list, shared informally between people who just wanted something quick and reliable to play between other tasks. The lineup has grown considerably since then, but the original standard hasn't moved.
What's different now is the depth. Sections like Skill & Reflex have real editorial thought behind them instead of a pile of links, and entries like Column Stack Challenge have become the kind of thing readers specifically check on rather than stumble into.
The plan going forward is more of the same: keep entries short and honest, keep the section well-organized, and keep adding titles that earn their place instead of filling space. If Open Journal is doing its job, it should feel less like a directory and more like a publication you actually want to open.
